Mar-Tea-Ni at Dry Martini, Melia White House
by Anthony Francis, 26 June 2017
Afternoon Tea has seen many incarnations, from ballerinas prancing around a piano at The Dorchester to the so called 'non-traditional' selection at Sosharu. Anthony Francis takes a stroll to Albany Street to find you need no thrills to enjoy a good cup of tea...
Almost every restaurant or hotel in London will offer, in some form or other, an Afternoon Tea selection. Dry Martini has decided to take the plunge and offer its version of the quintessentially British past time. Instead of pumping up the theatrics, they have opted for a simpler, tasty menu, which allows you to relax in the fun environment of the bar.
Located in the belly of Melia White House, off Great Portland Street, this darkened oasis has taking its name sake, Dry Martini, to inspire the menu of their new afternoon tea. The Mar-Tea-Ni Afternoon Tea sees a partnership with JING Tea to offer guests an eccentric and playful experience.
Exclusive to Dry Martini London, a selection of specialist teas, including Blackcurrant & Hibiscus, Organic Jade Sword, White Peony and Chai come to accompany some edible treats. The delectable selection includes scones infused with tantalizing tea blends and sweets mixed with drops of their famous martini.
The menu offers lavender, green tea, fruit and plain scones served with Devonshire Clotted Cream and mixed berry preserve, a Chocolate Martini Mousse Éclair, Mango Cheesecake and Chocolate and Vanilla Gateau. Savouries include Aubergine on Tomato Brioche, Lamb and Mint on Charcoal Toast and Pork and Pickle on White Sourdough.
So, if you are heading to the Dry Martini bar to sip on some of their fabulous tipples, why not arrive slightly earlier to line the stomach with this classic ritual recently introduced to the bar. Enjoy with live band and served but some rather lovely team members.
