A destination: New Zealand New Zealand has been shaped by volcanic activity and some of its volcanoes are still active. It has a diverse environment, including mountain ranges, lakes, rivers and a long coastline of sandy beaches. The islands are inhabited by flightless birds seen nowhere on Earth, such as a nocturnal, burrowing parrot called the kakapo and kiwi. Māori culture continues to play an important part in everyday life; government and corporate symbolism offer abundant opportunities for visitors to understand and experience both the history and present-day forms of Māori life. These islands are sparsely populated, particularly away from the North Island, but easily accessible. There are sparklingly modern visitor facilities, and transport networks are well developed with Airports throughout the country and well maintained highways.
A hotel: AZULIK Tulum The villas of AZULIK Tulum were designed to create an atmosphere for rest, where they limit technology to reduce its impact on the environment, which also allows guests the ability to get in tune with their surroundings. Each of the 48 villas were built in harmony with the Mayan jungle and the Caribbean Sea. With no electric light, A/C, or television, they present nature as the main amenity, setting the perfect mood for a romantic getaway. AZULIK Tulum A book: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho Published by HarperCollins, this global phenomenon has been read by over 62 million readers, topping bestseller lists worldwide. Written by Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist is a beautiful parable about learning to listen to your heart, read the omens strewn along life's path and, above all, follow your dreams. Santiago, a young shepherd living in the hills of Andalucia, feels that there is more to life than his humble home and his flock. One day, he finds the courage to follow his dreams into distant lands, each step galvanised by the knowledge that he is following the right path: his own. The people he meets along the way, the things he sees and the wisdom he learns are life-changing. Available at Waterstones, £9.99
