‘tis the season to invest in a fresh pair of the iconic spring/summer shoe
Words: Alessandro Ferrara
It’s a staple accessory year-round, but a veritable essential once the warmer seasons roll around. Timeless, elegant, versatile and comfortable, the white sneaker is the perfect addition to just about any outfit (even suits!) and brings an element of cool to any occasion. Whilst we do love our classic Stan Smiths, there are many more models out there that deserve attention – and a space in your shoe collection.
Minimal Sneakers by Artisan Lab
Working with selected Italian artisans who already work for established luxury brands, Artisan Lab offers made-to-order clothes and accessories using only the finest materials. These include the Minimal Sneakers – taking inspiration from the original 70s sport trainers, they are hand-stitched in Italy using a soft yet durable Italian calfskin. With a clean design, superior materials and high craftsmanship standards, the Minimal Sneakers are top of our shopping list this season.
Dante Venice Leather Lace-Ups by Dr. Martens
We couldn’t not feature Dr. Martens’ take on the iconic white sneaker: the ultra-cool Dante 6-Eye lace-ups. With a crisp, minimalist monochrome look, deliberately deconstructed and raw, this a fresh street shoe made with a full-grain leather which is super-soft to the touch. One of our favourites – also thanks to Doc’s ever-rebellious spirit.
The Essential Tennis Low by Fear of God
As part of Fear of God’s Essentials line, The Essential Tennis Low shoe is a modern remake of the classic tennis court sneaker. Crafted in Italy with a sculpted white translucent rubber sole, in 100% recycled leather, this shoe will work as well with your summer wedding outfit as it will on the streets.
Court Classic by Saint Laurent
Saint Laurent’s Court Classic SL/06 needs no introduction; a low-top laced sneaker pieced together in Italy using smooth calfskin leather. Taking the high fashion house into casual footwear in the most iconic way, it features the Maison’s brand embroidered on its outer sides. Our pick boasts a fabulous back tab in python-embossed nubuck, with a subtle Saint Laurent logo to keep things low-key cool.
Bball Sneakers by Common Projects
Inspired by vintage basketball shoes, Common Projects’ Bball sneakers are made in Italy and feature gold-stamped serial numbers, unique to the brand. An elevated alternative to Nike’s Air Force 1 ’07 sneaker – perfect for the more discerning homme.
Clean 90 Sneakers by AXEL ARIGATO
Handcrafted in Portugal, the Clean 90 sneakers from AXEL ARIGATO are made from soft, white leather with a matching rubber cup sole. As minimalist as they come, these shoes feature a slightly higher heel, providing maximum comfort thanks to a cushioned footbed with arch support.
V-10 by VEJA
A streetwear classic, made out of ecological and sustainable materials – the V-10 shoe from French company VEJA is ideal to hit the urban streets (without compromising on elegance). The shoes are made in Brazil, in the region of Porto Alegre, using wild rubber from the Amazonian forest for the soles.
Athletics ONE.2 by Athletics Footwear
A more active shoe in antique white with small touches of blue: we close our curated edit with the unique – and beautiful – Athletics ONE.2 from Athletics Footwear. With its 3D-moulded body combined with classic stitched mesh tongue and collar, it’s undoubtedly a sports shoe – but we would wear it every day if we could.
Modelo '89 Vegan White by SAYE
Vegan, organic and recycled. We love the ground-breaking processes SAYE have put in place to create their sneakers, constantly evolving the technologies used in the production process to further create a sustainable smarter and safer choice for our planet. The smart design is matched with a zero waste philosophy, only using bio-based and recycled materials.
SAYE also fight for fair work conditions, producing only in certified factories. On top of that, for every pair sold SAYE will plant two trees to fight against deforestation and empower local communities.
